How to care for your Buckaroo products

When you buy Buckaroo products, you can be assured that you are buying materials that are a cut above the rest.

Whilst our leather and synthetics have exceptional durability by design, it's important to properly care for your products to not only extend their life but keep them looking good as they develop their own unique patina.

Leather: General maintenance & conditioning
Leather is a natural product, and our Buckaroo leather is engineered by us with rich, natural oils that protect the leather over time. Water, dust, dirt, heat, cold and UV will eventually begin to weather the leather, and it will need to be rehydrated with a leather balm. We recommend at the very least an annual clean of your leather products. This should be done using a saddle soap or diluted warm soapy water. The item should be completely dry before adding a leather conditioner. Be sure to apply a liberal coating of leather conditioner, working it into any cracks and scuffs, getting good coverage across the entirety of the exterior. Follow this with a clean rag, making sure to remove any excess conditioner especially on stitching. During this process, it is a good chance to inspect the tool bag for any signs of wear and tear that may need attention or repair by Buckaroo.

Leather: Treating mould

To prevent mould, your Buckaroo leather products should be stored only once dry and in a cool, dry environment. Storing wet leather products or leather in a damp and dank environment may cause mould spores to form.

Much like a leather jacket or leather boots, our Buckaroo products can be cleaned and treated to inhibit mould from occurring or returning. We recommend using a saddle soap to clean the mould, drying the products in the sun completely before using a fungicide such as a 1:1 white vinegar to warm water solution. Using a rag, wipe down the tool bag, making sure to take care of the suede areas. Again, dry in the sun before a final coating of leather conditioner. Your Buckaroo leather products are now ready to return to work.

Synthetics: Cleaning

Buckaroo suspenders

Our Buckaroo suspenders are made from a mix of natural and synthetic materials and will need a clean from time to time. To do this, they need to be removed from the Buckaroo Tool Belt. Before undoing them, take a moment to mark the webbing with a permanent marker, this way you can quickly install the braces after cleaning without having to completely readjust to your body.

Much like our belts, you want to use a laundry tub or bucket. Fill with cold water and dilute with mild soap. Soak for 20-30 minutes. After soaking, begin to agitate the water with your hands to loosen up the dirt and dust. If you feel the need to scrub any of the webbing, gently do so using a wet rag. DO NOT attempt to scrub the wool felt material underneath the straps. Rinse with cold water, pat dry with a towel before hanging the suspenders to completely dry.

Buckaroo Tool Belts (Signature Back Support, All-Rounder, Mining belts)

Our Buckaroo Tool Belts are made up of a mix of natural and synthetic materials, so caution needs to be taken when washing these items. Remove all nail nags and frogs prior to washing the tool belt.

To wash a Buckaroo Tool Belt, we recommend filling a laundry tub or clean bucket with cold water. Dilute with a mild soap and let it soak for 20-30 minutes. DO NOT attempt to scrub the wool felt material. After soaking, gently agitate the water with your hands to loosen the dirt and dust before rinsing the tool belt thoroughly under cold running water.

Lay down a towel and place the tool belt buckle side up, firmly press the belt to allow the towel to absorb the excess water as best you can. Dry as much of the tool belt as possible including hardware. Place the tool belt outside in the sun or a warm room to completely dry before adding back nail bags, suspenders or frogs.

Storing Buckaroo products

For short term storage, whether it’s in the back of your Ute tray, tool box, tool trailer, site box, locker or in the workshop, there are a few things to consider when storing your Buckaroo Tool Belt, nail bags and frogs:

  • Limit unnecessary UV exposure
  • Limit the elements (extreme dry temperatures/ humidity and moisture)
  • If stored in a Ute or tool trailer, keep it secure, don’t let it slide around. It's not good for your tools and it has the potential to cause abrasion or other damage to your Buckaroo product.

Unless you are hanging your tool belt and suspenders, best practice for short term storage is to place your Buckaroo Tool Belt, nail bags, frogs and suspenders in a loose bag. This way your Buckaroo tool belt is always protected, and your tools, fasteners or bits are easier to find if they fall out.

When you need to get off the tools for a longer period. To ensure your Buckaroo gear is ready to go when you return, we recommend following these simple steps:

  • Clean all products, and recondition your leather products prior to storage
  • Remove all tools
  • Store only once all products are completely dry
  • Store in a bag with a sachet of Silica Gel or similar desiccant product
  • Store in a cool, dry environment.
