The Custom Piece
Back around 2009–2010, a young surveyor was looking for something hard to come by. He was after a durable, well-made belt and bag setup that could stand up to life in the field. After a bit of ringing around, he found himself at the Buckaroo factory in North Wollongong, where he met Buckaroo founder, Ken.
Along with a tool belt, bag and a selection of frogs, he mentioned he was after something to protect his field notes. Rather than reaching for an off-the-shelf solution, Ken asked to see the notebook itself.
A few days later, after designing and handcrafting a solution from scratch, the custom field note holder was ready.
The piece remains in remarkable condition, a testament to the quality of the materials, the craftsmanship and the philosophy that has shaped Buckaroo for generations.
Long before "custom" became a buzzword, it was simply the way things were done.
Today, this one-of-a-kind piece lives on as part of the Buckaroo Archive, preserving a small chapter in the story of Australian craftsmanship and the people who have relied on it.
